• Bridges

  • If you have a tooth or teeth that need to be replaced, you might consider a dental bridge.  We work with leading dental bridge specialists to make sure your smile is healthy and looking beautiful for years to come.

    What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth used to fill a gap in your smile. Many different materials can be used, including gold, porcelain, porcelain over metal alloys and even all-ceramic.

After an impression is taken of your mouth, a lab makes your dental bridge to match your surrounding teeth. The bridge is composed of the anchor teeth and “pontics”, which are where the missing teeth are replaced with a tooth-shaped spacer.  The bridge is cemented over your natural anchor teeth with a permanent dental cement.

Why do I need a dental bridge?

If you have gaps in your smile, you may not be able to chew effectively, and you may develop headaches or jaw pain.

If left untreated, teeth can shift into the spaces creating a distorted bite and putting stress on other teeth and soft tissues.  Areas may be more difficult to clean creating a gateway for tooth decay and even periodontal disease.  Bone loss can occur in these areas and can result in what’s called a collapsed bite, giving you a very aged appearance.

How do I know if I should get a dental bridge?

A consult with a qualified dentist is the best way to determine if a bridge is right for you.

At A Center for Dental Implants, we will give you a complete exam and go over treatment options. We take the time to answer any questions you have. After 30 years of fitting patients in Oak Brook, Illinois and surrounding areas with dental bridges, you can be confident that we will work hard to deliver you the best solution possible.

How do I take care of a dental bridge?

Your dental bridge does require a little special treatment, utilizing a special flosser.  If properly cared for, your dental bridge will last a lifetime! You must also take good care of your surrounding teeth that support the bridge to ensure longevity.

    Regular Checkups

Regular checkups and cleanings are crucial to help ensure that your dental bridge is functioning properly. Even if the dental bridge is not supported by your natural teeth, they can lead to health issues in your mouth like gum disease and bone loss that can jeopardize the look and functionality of your dental bridge.

    Oral Hygiene

Proper personal oral hygiene is important to get rid of plaque and bacteria to keep your dental bridge looking good and working well. Using products that have the ADA Seal of Acceptance is your best option since they meet the ADA’s standards for effectiveness and safety.

As with most other dental care, proper diet and limiting sugary and tooth-staining foods can help prolong the life of your dental bridge.
